Summary:
The Clinical Laboratory Scientist performs clinical laboratory testing of biological specimens that involve theapplication of a variety of appropriate professional knowledge. The Clinical Laboratory Scientist is under thedirect supervision of the section Technical Coordinator and is ultimately responsible to the Director ofLaboratory Services. The testing personnel are responsible for specimen processing, test performance, andfor reporting test results.
Experience/
Qualifications:
Must have a working knowledge of reagent stability and storage.
Must have an awareness of the factors that influence test results
Must have the skills required to assess and verify the validity of patient test results through the evaluation ofquality control sample values prior to reporting patient test results.
Must meet CLIA requirements for Testing Personnel for High Complex Testing.
Must possess skills required to implement the quality control policies and procedures of the laboratory.
Education:
Have earned an associate degree in a laboratory science, or medical laboratory technology from anaccredited institution.
Preferred Bachelor of Science Degree from an accredited institution plus completion of a one year internshipin Medical Technology.
Licensure/Certification:
Must possess California license, preferably certified by ASCP (American Society of Clinical Pathologists) andadditional certification in area supervised.
Possess a valid Clinical Laboratory Scientist license issued by the State of California.
Physical Requirements:
Duties of the position require extended periods of standing and walking. Bending, stooping, twisting, reachingand lifting up to 50 lbs.
Work Environment:
Ability to work well under pressure with frequent interruptions and deadlines.
